Maties outscore Madibaz in Stellenbosch

The FNB Maties scored two second half tries to beat the FNB NMMU Madibaz, as they keep their play-off hopes alive at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch on Monday night.

The Madibaz were still leading up to the fifty fifth minute, but a Maties try with ten minutes to go secured a 26 - 16 win for the home side.

Maties opened the scoring through flank, Beyers de Villiers, after just four minutes of play. Flyhalf, Brandon Thomson missed the conversion as they took an early 5 - 0 lead.

NMMU struck back in the twelfth minute with a try of their own when inside center, Devon Lailvaux crossed the whitewash for his team's first try. The visitors took the lead after a successful conversion from flyhalf Steven Hansel, 8 - 5.

The score remained unchanged as the Madibaz took a three point lead into the half time break.

Madibaz extended their lead early in the second half after eighthman, Andisa Ntsila, scored his team's second try. Hansel added the extra's as NMMU took a 16 - 8 lead after forty five minutes.

Maties turned the game in their favour when they scored three unanswered tries in twenty minutes, the first through Kobus van Dyk, followed by Neil Oelofse and the bonus point try by Michael Muller in the sixty eight minute. Thomson successfully converted two of the tries as Maties took a 26 - 16 lead with ten minutes to go. 

Madibaz were unable to add any further points at the end, giving Maties a well deserved 26 - 16 win as they keep their play-off hopes alive.

Madibaz will play their final game against log leaders FNB UP-TUKS at the NMMU Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Monday the 23rd of March.
