Disappointing result for Madibaz

Defending champions NWU-Pukke ran in four tries to one as they outscored the NMMU Madibaz 37 - 7 in Round 2 of the FNB Varsity Cup, at the Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds in Potchefstroom on Monday night.

The home side scored two converted tries and a penalty to lead 17 - 0 at the break.

Madibaz prop, Xandre Vos scored the only try for the visitors in the second half, which was converted by Simon Bolze. Pukke added a further two converted tries and two penalties as the game ended 37 - 7.

Madibaz captain, Kevin Kaba believes if they had utilised their opportunities better the match could have had a different outcome.

"It was a tough game, as is always the case in Potch, but had we managed to utilise the few opportunities we got, the result could've been a lot closer."

He added, "we failed to execute our plan effectively and put ourselves under pressure on a few occasions."

Focusing on the game at hand against the Tuks, Kaba said physicality and composure will be key.

"Tuks will be a similar challenge to Pukke. We will have to front up physically and maintain our composure when under pressure."

Madibaz are currently forth on the log, with one win after two games.
