Tough defeat for Madibaz

The FNB NMMU Madibaz failed to impress on last week's performance when they faced the defending champions, FNB UCT, at the UCT Rugby Fields in Cape Town last night.

Madibaz were still in the game at half time, trailing 8 - 16, but three second half tries secured a well deserved 40 - 13 win for the Ikey Tigers.

Ikeys opened the scoring through flyhalf Warren Seals in the seventh minute, Seals converted his try to give the home team an 8 - 0 lead.

Madibaz drew level after continual pressure in the red zone resulted in a penalty try for the visitors, Ruan Allerston converted, 8 all after thirty minutes.

Ikeys scrumhalf, James Alexander put UCT back in front when he crossed the line for his team's second try, Seals converted as they took a 16 - 8 lead into the half time break.

Ikeys eightman and captain, Guy Alexander scored early in the second half to extend his team's lead to sixteen points after another successful conversion by Seals, 24 - 8.

Flank, Jason Klaasen scored the bonus point try for the Tigers in the fiftieth minute, Seals added the extras as Ikeys took a comfortable 32 - 8 lead.

Replacement hooker, Warrick Venter scored Madibaz' second try five minutes from full time, after Ikeys were reduced to fourteen men when Chad Solomans received a yellow card a few minutes earlier. Jarred Buys failed with the conversion as Madibaz trailed 13 - 32.

UCT managed to score a fifth try on full time, through Luke Stringer, Seals added the extras as the game ended 40 - 13.
