Eastern Province beat SWD in Craven Week opener

Eastern Province's Curwin Bosch stole the show when they faced SWD in their opener at this year's Coca-Cola Craven Week, played at the Markottor Fields Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch on Tuesday.


Eastern Province dominated most of the first half as they scored two tries, the first through Riaan van Rensburg and the second through Kwezi Mafu. Curwin Bosch converted the second try and added a drop goal as they took a 15 - 3 half-time lead.

SWD scored first after the break to bring the score to 10 - 15 after a successful conversion. Tries followed from both sides as SWD came within five points at 17 - 22.

EP scored a converted try and a penalty to take a 32 - 17 lead, before SWD scored another converted try to stay in the game at 24 - 32.

Bosch kept the score board ticking with his second drop goal to take their lead to 35 - 24. SWD came within striking distance as they scored another converted try, trailing 31 - 35, with five minutes to go.

Bosch secured the win for Eastern Province as he kicked a third drop goal and a final penalty to take the score to 41 - 31.

Bosch was awarded man-of-the-match as he kicked 21 points.
