Tough challenge awaits PE Police

Port Elizabeth's Don's Pawn Shop PE Police kicked off their Gold Cup campaign on a high with a win over Bloemfontein Police at Kemsley Park in Port Elizabeth this past Saturday.

The homeside scored six tries to one in a convincing 35 - 11 win after leading 13 - 6 at half-time.

Flyhalf Ruan Allerston kicked a penalty in the thirteenth minute to draw level after the visitors kicked an early penalty through Johannes Barnard.

Two tries followed, the first through left wing Sebastian Loxsen and the second through lock Hannes Huisamen. Allerston missed both conversions, but despite this, they still enjoyed a five point lead at the break, 13 - 6.

PE Police added a further 22 points in the second half, which included four tries and a conversion.

Scrumhalf Daniel Vosloo scored PE Police's third try ten minutes into the second half, followed by Loxsen's second try of the match minutes later. Allerston converted the second try.

Arno Visagie scored the visitor's only points of the second half, Barnard missed the conversion as they trailed 13 - 25 with a quarter left to play.

PE Police added another two more tries, the first through hooker Stephan Deysel and the second through replacement Kyle Scott. Allerston missed both conversions, but despite missing ten points the home side won comfortably, 35 - 11, in the end.

This week's match sees PE Police travel to Pretoria where they will face last year's Plate Final winners Pretoria Police at Loftus Versfeld.

Pretoria Police also had a comfortable 44 - 17 win against Griquas' Belaz Sishen in their opening match.

Kick-off for today's match is at 16:15 and will be live on Super Sport 1 & HD.
